NYC Cathedral offers official Mass of Reparation to reconsecrate St Patrick's after outcry over trans activist funeral

St. Patrick's Cathedral "only knew that family and friends were requesting a funeral Mass for a Catholic, and had no idea our welcome and prayer would be degraded in such a sacrilegious and deceptive way."

The Archdiocese of New York which operates the St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City said that it shares the "outrage over the scandalous behavior at a funeral" earlier in the week for a trans activist and offered "an appropriate Mass of Reparation" to reconsecrate the cathedral. The funeral proceedings celebrated blasphemy, whoredom, and had prayers for access to sex changes.

According to the statement, the Archdiocese "only knew that family and friends were requesting a funeral Mass for a Catholic, and had no idea [its] welcome and prayer would be degraded in such a sacrilegious and deceptive way."

"That such a scandal occurred at “America’s Parish Church” makes it worse; that it took place as Lent was beginning, the annual forty–day struggle with the forces of sin and darkness, is a potent reminder of how much we need the prayer, reparation, repentance, grace, and mercy to which this holy season invites us," the statement added. The Archdiocese of New York added that it would hold "an appropriate Mass of Reparation" in response.

The funeral was held for trans activist and self-proclaimed atheist, Cecilia Gentili, and the person who organized it was another transgender activist, Ceyenne Doroshow.

Doroshow told reporters, “I kind of kept it under wraps," regarding the identify of Gentili and what would occur.

Gentili was an illegal immigrant from Argentina before gaining asylum in the United States in 2012. During the activist's time as an illegal immigrant, Gentili worked as a sex worker for 10 years.

The Biden administration's Center for Disease Control also granted Gentili's organization, $540,000 for "trans outreach" about HIV treatment while the activist was alive.

Video posted to X on Friday showed attendees honoring Gentili saying, "This whore. This great whore. St. Cecilia, Mother of all Whores!"

The priest at the Cathedral said that the event was the most well attended service aside from Easter Sunday during the funeral.
